Oh, what a night….
After months of planning we were finally able to welcome Libs Elliott to Brisbane to a full house.
Libs is an amazing quilter from Canada who has embraced technology in her quilt making. She uses computer code and algorithms to create random quilt patterns, transforming a traditional craft into modern functional art.
The Guild provided some light refreshments as well as an opportunity to shop before we settled down to the important part of the evening – Lib’s presentation
Our thanks to Nerida of Quilt Around the Clock for stocking up on Libs’ ‘Almost Blue’ collection for our guests to acquire.
Libs presented an interesting presentation on her process and followed that up with an awesome display of her quilts
Twenty-five lucky quilters got to spend the weekend with Libs learning to ‘embrace the chaos’. Fortunately for many of us, there were no computers required. Through a series of worksheet exercises, students were able to mimic Libs’ programming language and generate there own unique quilt pattern layout.
Once that was done, the fun began, with coloured pencils to colour in the designs. Followed by even more fun as cutting and sewing and trimming commenced. Quilt tops began to take shape on the floor and on the walls and by Sunday afternoon there were tops nearing completion in all the colours of the rainbow
Libs raffled off a bundle of her latest fabric range ‘almost blue’ to the workshop participants, which was won by Carmel.
