Membership

Thanks for your interest in joining our guild!

We’d be sew glad to have you as a member! Membership runs from April to March the following year. Membership fees are $80.00 per year and are due April 1.

Quarterly pro-rata fees are offered for new members who join after the start of the financial year, that is:
• $60.00 from 1 July each year
• $40.00 from 1 October each year
• $20.00 from 1 January each year

You are very welcome to attend our Sew Days as a visitor and your first two visits are free of charge.  We ask that you then join the guild to make the most of being part of the group.

(Please note this relates to our central sew days at Mt Ommaney – our BMQG Local meetings may charge small fees for non-members due to rental and other costs).

What are the benefits of being a member of Brisbane MQG?

  • Attendance of monthly sew days at Mt Ommaney without charge
  • Attendance of BMQG Local sew days without charge
  • Access to the Brisbane MQG Members Group on Facebook
  • Brisbane MQG’s electronic newsletter “The Thread”
  • Participation in Guild swaps, exchanges, bees, field trips, and special guest speakers
  • Priority registration for retreats, workshops, and sew-ins
  • Discounts to all Guild events
  • Ability to vote in Guild activities and future opportunities
  • Discount at a number of online and SEQ quilt stores
  • plus… Membership of The Modern Quilt Guild including your own personal account for accessing the MQG social site

Are there other membership options available? What if I can’t regularly attend sew days?

If you live more than 150km from Brisbane city, we do have an associate membership available for members of our community who wish to stay in the loop with our guild but live too far away. Associate membership has no voting rights and members are unable to hang quilts in any of our displays. They can also only sew with us up to 4 times per membership year. Associate membership includes:

  • Access to the Brisbane MQG Members Group on Facebook
  • Brisbane MQG’s electronic newsletter “The Thread”
  • Discount at a number of online and SEQ quilt stores
  • Participation in Guild swaps, exchanges, bees, field trips, and special guest speakers (must pay own additional costs, where relevant due to distance, and must not take the place of a standard member where tickets/places are limited)
  • Second-priority registration for retreats, workshops, and sew-ins (priority over public registrations, but must not take the place of a standard member where tickets are limited)
  • plus… Membership of The Modern Quilt Guild including your own personal account for accessing the MQG social site

    • Hi Justine,
Yes there is a reduced fee. Our fees breaks down to be $6/month so if you are looking to join mid year you’d be looking to pay around $30. When you complete your membership form, one of our Committee will contact you to let you know the exact amount as at the date you joined.
      Hope that helps!

  2. Hello
I’m interested in Coming along to see if MQG is a fit for me. I understand you meet on the 3rd Sunday of each month. What time, and is there anyone I need to contact?
    Thanks for your time.

    • Hi Kylie
We meet on the third Sunday at The Centenary Hub, Mt Ommney shopping centre. Our sew days are fairly informal, our members typically bring a project or two to work on. Sewing machines are welcome and we have plenty of extension leads and power boards, and we have a couple of irons and ironing boards that can be used. The hall opens at 10am and we need to be packed up by 5pm. Notices and show and tell are typically around 1pm. Because of the covid plan we need to have contact info for everyone who is attending, so I would appreciate an email, if you are thinking of coming. The guild email is brisbanemqg@gmail.com
