Craft and Quilt Fair 2019

Every year in October the Craft and Quilt Fair comes to town. The fair includes the annual Queensland Quilters Quilt Show and is a fun filled four days of craft and quilting pleasure. Each year, we endeavour to come up with a new way to showcase the work of our Guild.

This year, we thought we would explore circles and tiny piecing. A few months ago, we asked our members to embrace tiny or crumb piecing and make monochromatic circles. We didn’t mind what colour they chose, although the brighter the better and we weren’t too concerned about size. Basically, if the circle was bigger than four inches, we were happy. It was suggested that members use whatever circular object came to hand for their templates, their favourite coffee mug, dinner plate or anything in between.

We were extremely lucky that we were given almost seven metres of wall space to display our circles as the members really embraced the tiny piecing and we had a lot of circles to display.

Our goal now that the fair is over is to use these circles in our community quilt making.

Over the four days, members spent time talking to the fair visitors about modern quilting and the Brisbane Modern Quilt Guild, handing out membership information to those that wanted it.

The Brisbane MQG is a community for quilters to share and inspire each other. Our vision is to promote the craft of modern quilting in a friendly atmosphere, to provide a place to share ideas and skills, to conduct workshops to enhance skills, and to enable those members who wish to participate in charity quilt making for the community.
